Little Moesha and her mother

Moesha Denise Mitchell was born in Los Angeles, California on January 30, 1981. Like many teens, Moesha is trying to find her place in life. At every turn, she and her friends and family experience new challenges, hilarious situations, and lots of drama associated with the pressures and demands of growing up in a confusing world.

At the young age of 11, Moesha's mother, Marguerite Jennings, died from an unknown cause.

Friends[]

Kimberly "Kim" Parker[]

One of Moesha's longest and closest friendships is with Kimberly Ann 'Kim' Parker. Moesha and Kim have been best friends since preschool. When Moesha and Kim were in 3rd grade, they played a practical joke on substitute teacher Mrs. Lecount, who ended up in the emergency room; it's unknown whether she died there or is still alive, although she was mentioned in one episode. Moesha and Kim went to different colleges but managed to stay connected.

Hakeem Campbell[]

Moesha's other childhood friend is her next-door neighbor and longtime special best friend Hakeem Campbell. Hakeem was also the Mitchells' frequent houseguest, especially at mealtimes. Moesha and Hakeem were very close and even developed a romantic relationship later on. Kim had wanted to date Hakeem since she met him and at the beginning of the series, but later when she reaches adulthood in college, she dates Michael (He is accidentally killed in an oil-rig explosion after the last two episodes in season 2 on the spinoff series "The Parkers" in early 2001, before the beginning of season 3). Jo-Marie Payton portrayed his doting mother, Bernetta Campbell.

Denise "Niecy" Jackson[]

Another friend, Niecy Jackson, is very bright. In the beginning of the series, she is just like Kim, checking out every guy that walks by; she is also seen arguing with rival-turned-roommate Alicia just like Moesha does when she and Moesha move into their college dorm.

Andell Wilkerson[]

Moesha's oldest friend is Andell Wilkerson who owns "The Den," Moesha and friends' favorite hangout, and advises and helps them out. At the end of the fifth season, Andell closes The Den and opens up her own restaurant/bar, "Andell's," which is frequently portrayed in the spinoff series, "The Parkers."

The Andell Wilkerson character was written out of the series for season 6 and Nicole Ann 'Nikki' Parker became Andell's ever-loving and loyal best friends. Andell is replacing Nikki's 1st friend and neighbor, Desiree Littlejohn, who was written out of the series, in the second half of season 1 and all of seasons 2-5 of "The Parkers".

Romantic Relationships[]

Quinton "Q" Brooks[]

During the series, Moesha's biggest love is Quinton 'Q' Brooks. Moesha and Q were on/off throughout the series. Q was eventually written out of the show, but later Moesha and Q became engaged until Q wanted to pawn Moesha's engagement ring, and when she refused to part with it, he got upset. Moesha then decided that she could do better than Q and broke up with him.

Hakeem Campbell[]

The other guy Moesha fell for was longtime neighbor and special best friend Hakeem Campbell; they were on/off toward the series' end. When Moesha told Hakeem she broke up with Q, Hakeem was excited. Moesha deeply cares about Hakeem, and they continued to be a couple until the series' end. In the spin-off "The Parkers," it's revealed that they're no longer dating. Hakeem later dated Kim Parker's best friend, Stevie Van Lowe on "The Parkers".

Family Members[]

Deidre "Dee" Mitchell[]

Deidre "Dee" Mitchell is Moesha's stepmother. They develop a closer relationship throughout the series as stepmother and stepdaughter. In one episode, Dee finds Moesha's birth control pills in the kitchen and doesn't tell Frank about Moesha's intentions on using them. Soon, Dee leaves to go to Jamaica for her new job and came back for Thanksgiving.

Frank Mitchell[]

Frank Mitchell is Moesha's father. Moesha's relationship with her father became somewhat rocky and intense, as he didn't let her go out on dates with boys. In earlier seasons, he banned her from going out with Quinton "Q" Brooks. He also got mad at her in the last two episodes of Season 3 for going to a sleepover with boys and she even runs to Andell's house to stay. As though, they may have hard times, Season 5 was a really hard time, when Moesha and her family found out that her father did in fact, have an affair with another woman during his first wife's marriage, and had a son named Dorian Long. She moved out of the house permanently but She later on forgave him.

Myles Mitchell[]

Myles Mitchell is known in the sitcom as Moesha's only little brother. She has a very playful and funny relationship. They often quarrel and tease each other. In Season 4, Myles was caught smoking and was turned to therapy. Myles spoke and said that the reason that he was smoking was because he felt deserted and alone. They now develop a closer relationship.

Dorian Long[]

Dorian Long is Moesha's half-brother in Seasons 5 & 6. She has an on/off sibling relationship with Dorian but in Season 6, she helps him look for his biological birth mother. Brandy and Ray J are very close siblings in real life.

Personality[]

Moesha is a thoughtful, sweet friend and colleague. She enjoys poetry, which is her biggest inspiration and source of strength through hard times. Moesha is also strong-willed and determined. She is also an advocate for gender equality and is absolutely against racial discrimination. Moesha was a good person but also had her flaws, she can tend to be picky, stubborn and nosey. Moesha tries to be perfect, believing that she has to be a role model to others, and therefore has trouble accepting help. She often struggles to find her purpose in an environment if she isn't constantly helping others, which leads to moments of vulnerability and feelings of uselessness. Overall, Moesha is a very strong and independent woman who strives to achieve success on her own accord.
